Breaking: ADCC Releases Female Absolute Bracket for 2024 Season

As if ADCC Worlds 2024 couldn’t get more exciting, head organizer, Mo Jassim has just released a NEW female absolute bracket that will appear at this year’s competition.

If you aren’t familiar with what an absolute bracket is, it’s an open division where grapplers from any weight class can enter and compete against each other.

Historically, ADCC has actually held women’s absolute divisions before in 2005 & 2007, in which 2005 is also the first time we saw the inclusion of women’s divisions in general. Now, the reason why they stopped the absolute division for 17 years is unclear, possibly because of the lack of female athletes in earlier years.

Nevertheless, seeing this division make a comeback, as well as the addition of the -55kg weight class they announced back in June 2023, is a huge step forward for the female aspect of the sport. There are not only more spots for girls to punch their ticket to worlds, but more chances for female athletes to showcase their hard work on perhaps what is known as the biggest stage in jiu jitsu.

ADCC on Instagram: “Breaking News: ADCC has officially added a 3rd women’s division to the trials and ADCC world championship! The weight classes have been adjusted to 55 kg 65 kg 65+ kg”

Personally, after looking at the stacked list of female invites, I feel like the absolute could be even more interesting to watch than the set weight classes. Just as everyone loves “David vs. Goliath” matchups like we saw at ADCC 2022 with Fabricio Andrey vs. Victor Hugo, we could potentially have never-before-seen matches that could make the fans go wild over women’s jiu jitsu.

Potential Matchups:

While the match up options are endless, only one thing is for certain. There are now only 103 days until ADCC 2024, day 1 officially kicks off and I don’t know about you, but we cannot wait to see which big names get thrown into this new division.

Catch the event in person August 17-18th in Las Vegas, Nevada or stream it live on FloGrappling.
